We may need more than one person checking tickets during peak times 6.30-8.30
We may need more than one person on the stall throughout its duration 6.30-11.00ish
Depending on how busy it is, we may need 2 people upstairs further into the night.
Bex W. is in charge of the rota and will be wandering between each location throughout the hour to check that everything’s O.K, help out if necessary and to make sure people do swap shifts on time to give everyone a fair chance of enjoying the rest of the night.
If you sign up for a shift PLEASE ATTEND! Do NOT let us down!
Any problems let us know immediately and we’ll get the bouncer, or a representative of the mansion, to rectify the situation. Do not tackle anything on your own.

If you can do a later shift (live in student halls, nearby) then please do help us out! It’s your work that gets put in danger if it’s not being watched over.

There’s around 27 of you involved so you should all do at least 1 shift! Don’t leave it up to the same few people to have to cover for your laziness.

Trip and help needed

*ANTWERP VISIT*

There'll be another visit down to the Mansion on Thursday 9th Feburary. Meet Thom in the studio at 1:00, or if you'd rather meet us at the Mansion, that's fine, just let us know so the group isn't waiting for you.

The purpose of this is for myself and Bex to show eveyone the space they have been assigned and to straighten out any niggles that may occur. It's vitally important that everyone attends, so please let us know if you can't!

**UPDATES WITH WORK**

If you have any updates about you work or photos or if the work has altered or if the scale has changed etc. let us know before thursday so we can keep this in mind whilst arranging a suitable layout. Failure to notify us of any drastic changes will cause further delays and disrupt other students who have given us their info so please keep us up to date.

***IMAGES**

If anyone has a picture of what it is they're planning to include in the exhibition, then please get it sent to us asap. We're aiming for good press coverage on this, and we could do with at least one picture of the work included to go with the press release. So if you have one, get it sent to us, and it could be in the papers!

***GOODIE BAGS***

We'll be having something similar to the goodie bags for the purposes of artist promo...The exact specifications have yet to be decided. We don't want to make them too extravigant because of the Artist Stall, so the design has yet to be chosen.

This is your chance to really promote yourself, so try to make sure you have some business cards made or printed to go in there!

*ARTIST STALL*

On the preview eventing there will be a stall on which we can sell postcards, prints, handmade crafts etc. The more variety of things on sale, the better! A 25% commision will be taken from items sold to go towards the 2012 degree show, so remember to include this when pricing your items.

*SALE OF WORK*

If anyone would like to try and sell their work at the venue, you are more than welcome to. Again a 25% commision fee will be taken off any work that is sold so add this onto your price beforehand and all money raised from this will also go towards the degree show.

*HELP!*
We're not asking for money to help this exhibition/event to go ahead, (although, there has been a fair ammount of it spent!) so instead we'd like you to give up as much of your time as possible helping to pull it all together. We'll be looking to fill the following roles in the run up to the event and on the evening itself, and would expect everyone to take up at least one of them. If you'd like to take up a postition then let us know, we will be asking for people to fill any unfilled roles at the meeting on the 9th. For 2nd years (even first years!) some of these will go down great for your Networking Unit, and positions of responsibility always go down great on anyone's CV! We will still be on hand to help anyone that needs it.

*Stall Organiser(s)* - Setting up the stall on the 25th, and displaying the stock. Ensuring everything has a price on it, etc. Keeping track of who's work has sold and how much money to give to the artists/how much to give to the degree show fund.

*Goodie Bags Creators  * - We'll need around 2 people to produce and fill the goodie bags. Exact details to follow....
*Rota Organiser* - Creating the rota's for invigillation, and making sure people stick to it

*Invigillators* - *Everyone* will have to take a turn at keeping an eye on either the upstairs gallery, the cafe, the stall, being  a 'wandering' monitor, or checking tickets.

*Promotion* - Everyone will have to help out with promotion, dispersing flyers, word of mouth, etc. More info will be given on Thursday. We could do with one or two people to head this up, and to spend a bit of time making sure we're on the relevant event listings websites.

*THINGS WE NEED*

If you can help out with any of the following, it'd be fantastic! Let us know!

  - Buckets, or some other form of collecting tins for voluntary donations to the degree show fund.
  - Black material.
  - Foam board
  - Pollyfiller
  - White Emulsion Paint
  - Decorator paintbrushes/rollers and palettes
  - Dust sheets

Press release and poster!

[I apologise if the pic looks blurred, the blog resized it upon upload for some reason.]

Creative Transit and Co. present:
{Evolve}
art|music|event
GROUP SHOW OF 26 ARTISTS

ANTWERP MANSION
25TH FEBURARY -
PREVIEW EVENT: 25th FEBURARY 2012
PREVIEW EVENT PERFORMANCES FROM: Glasstaxi, Uncle Strawberry, Third Thumb, Simon Turner, Earl Grey

Evolution is one of the most powerful narratives of contemporary culture. It represents gradual change and progress from a simple idea to a more complex form. Creative Transit and Co. aim to approach this subject from an artist’s perspective, using various media to explore the various evolutions that occur every day, and the constant change and renovation of the Antwerp Mansion itself. The influence of the venue will become enhanced by the sensory overload of music and visual culture at the {Evolve} preview event, featuring several established and upcoming musicians and DJ’s.

Evolution is all about creation and the development that occurs from this initial point. {Evolve} is not shy to tackle this theme in a visual, engaging manner, with the nature of the exhibition allowing diverse practices to emerge. A wide range of media has enabled the artists to reflect the variety that can emerge from just one common denominator.

Creative Transit is a Manchester-based exhibiting artist collective, presenting interesting, engaging and accessible artwork. Previous exhibitions include the Free For Arts Festival, and BLANKSPACE. Members have exhibited independently worldwide from Blackpool to Brooklyn, and the directors – Lauren Taylor and Rebecca Wild – endeavor to make each group exhibition bigger and better than the last.

Exhibiting Artists:  Sonny Barker, Katie Barnes, Roxana Beaumont, Chuman, Alex Cussons, Rebecca Duffin, Liam Evans, Rhys Fagan, Sophia Gardiner, Liz Greenwood, John Grocott, Emma Hardaker, Roushay Homayoun-Fekri, Sam Kelly, Enya Koster, Rebecca Lange, Kieran Bernard, Kate Merrick,  Joel Moore, Eleanor Savage, Phil Simpson, Lauren Taylor, Thom Thatcher, Rosa Vaughan, Laura Warters Dan Watson, Rebecca Wild

Update/Reminder

EMAIL REMINDER FROM LOZZY:
"This is just a reminder about the official proposal deadline which is Wedneday 11th. Thank you to everyone that's already sent theirs over, it's a great help!

Everyone else, now that the journal is handed in, get yourselves in gear! We've had lots of people expressing interest, and telling us what they've got planned, but we really need it all wrote down so we can begin to plan the layout and the promotion for the show.

A copy of the proposal can be found in the posts below

BERLIN TRIP
If you intend to go on the Berlin trip, that's great! With the flight not getting back till late on the 24th Feb, and the exhibition opening on the 25th, you will not be around for the install. We will try to accommodate this, provided you make sure we have the work before you leave[with instructions if necessary], and it is easy to put up, and you make sure you're at the preview night!

Thanks everyone,

Lozzy"

 SIDE NOTE FROM BEX:
If anyone is concerned about the theme please let us know in advance. It is a really flexible theme, if you think of it in the right way, but we can help out with any worries.
I've found some quotes about growth that may inspire or aid people. They are aimed at the growth of yourself as an artist but it may help out :
From a small seed a mighty trunk may grow. (Aeschylus)

Growth itself has the germ of happiness. (Pearl S. Buck)

If you are lucky, and if you live long enough, and if you trust your materials and you trust your instincts, you will see things of beauty growing up in front of you, without you having anything to do with it. (Michael Cardew)

Look at the earth crowded with growth, new and old bursting from their strong roots hidden in the silent, live ground, each seed according to its own kind... each one knowing what to do, each one demanding its own rights on the earth... So, artist, you too from the deeps of your soul... let your roots creep forth, gaining strength. (Emily Carr)

I think that one's art is a growth inside one. I do not think one can explain growth. It is silent and subtle. One does not keep digging up a plant to see how it grows. (Emily Carr)

Artistic growth is, more than anything else, a refining of the sense of truthfulness. The stupid believe that to be truthful is easy: only the great artist knows how difficult it is. (Willa Cather)

Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow. (Ralph Waldo Emerson)

- The Tipping Point
Ideas and products and messages and behaviors spread just like viruses do. (Malcolm Gladwell)

The work keeps getting deeper, more honest. I continue to work on a piece until I feel it breathe on its own. (Laura Harris)

Art is not an amusement, nor a distraction, nor is it, as many men maintain, an escape from life. On the contrary, it is a high training of the soul, essential to the soul's growth, to its unfoldment. (Lawren Harris)

In his attempt to develop the beauty he sees, the artist develops himself. (Charles Hawthorne)

Growth comes when you can take a statement and go beyond it to achieve something even better and more exciting. (Roberta Horton)

Conformity is the jailer of freedom and the enemy of growth. (John F. Kennedy)

Do something beyond what you know, otherwise there is no growth. (Billie F. Mathis)

Change is inevitable. Growth is optional. (John C. Maxwell)

All growth is a leap in the dark, a spontaneous, unpremeditated act without benefit of experience. (Henry Miller)

Failure is a precursor to growth. (Gina Mollicone-Long)

Please send your proposals in to us by the 11th. I dont want to have to start chasing people around. Be excited about this! It's going to be awesome and help with raising a bit of money for the degree show!
